The Lonely Instrument

I saw The Lonely Instrument which was a development work by three accomplished Melbourne performance makers. This work was supported by Melbourne Fringe. I really loved this work – very funny performances, great design, iced vo-vo’s, vampirical ladies – whats not to like?
I had a brief moment of distress as I though the makers had gone down a path of earnest vampire worship without any of the other connotations or resonances that the figure of the vampiress brings. But it was saved when they made deliberate reference to the vampire icon they had just been using through the mouth of a CWA lady. And here is the power in the work, the ability for these terrifying ladies (both CWA and vampiresses) to wield their power and quick wittedness against hapless men. When you aren’t sure who they are…or what they are capable of…
Obviously this has another period of development to go before it is a full work, I look forward to its future.
