On friday night at Carriageworks Bay 20, Deadpan (Willoh S Weiland and myself) created a live text work for the curated event Nighttime.

Nighttime set-up

We operated in two spaces – the first a roving installation room, where audience could stand and move around, the second a sit down theatre space.

Our role for the evening was to be the MC, to move the night along and make comments live both onto a screen and also online using the micro-blogging platform Twitter .

What became clear to us in the development and then in the performance of the work is that the form is quite interesting, even if its normal day to day (minute by minute) use tends to lead quite quickly to tedium. In the realm of live performance the facility to be able to be both simultaneously in the room and a million miles away is of interest to me.

But I think where the work was at its most interesting was is the collection of ideas around the theme of Petty Theft which was selected by Lara Thoms as the gathering point for curation for the night.

Don't Speak To Me Like That

Also of interest was the background information of the acts;

DOn't Speak 2

Having said that these bits worked the best, I can’t be sure – reading back on them they seem quite interesting, but on the night – with a large screen and a computer page on it – who knows? Perhaps it was boring?
